A Date with Author and  Storyteller Anupa Lal - February' 11

ANUPA LAL's is a well know writer and storyteller. She has written over 20 books including picture books, collections of poems, mythology, folk tales and translations. She spent a beautiful saturday morning with us sharing stories.

Analia Restropo,  a professional weaver conducted a 5 session weaving workshop for children in the age group of 6 to 8 years at the Reading Caterpillar studio. Weaving is a process of interlacing stripes of paper or cloth, strands of yarn, wood sticks, plastic straws,  or any simple material that you can find at home to create an object which can be complemented by artistic techniques as painting, papier mache and many others.

Together with story-telling with Reading Caterpillar, Analia guided the children on the discovery of  their own creativity through weaving techniques with a number of unusual materials. Kids created a hand weaved craft related to a story using only their hands (as opposed to the traditional loom) to transform materials through weaving techniques into objects in a fantastic and creative way.

Analia, is a professional weaver and textile designer, has been teaching modern and traditional weaving techniques in Italy, and currently she is developing a unique collection of handbags, furnishing accessories and jewellery, entirely handmade from either knitted, crocheted, woven or simply plaited, twisted or knotted neoprene yarn, pvc  and other types of industrial plastic materials used extensively in the plumbing, car and motorcycle industries.

Book Hospital - A regular feature :)
We have many well-loved books in the library and some have been loved and hugged so tight that they need our help! In our book OPD, the books get the best mending and care. We  bring in the first aid kit, and children and parents drop in to help the books in the hospital . The books will have the name of the child who helps to take care of it.
It is a great way of encouraging children to take care of their books and also books that they borrow. Look forward to get some helping hands soon.
Origami is a fascinating and creative craft for kids, especially if you can find origami models appropriate to their age. Not only will children get a real sense of satisfaction out of making these fun origami models, but they will be getting practice at following instructions, increasing their manual dexterity, and producing a fun and decorative end-product.

Reiko Tsushima and Konomi a children’s book illustrator conducted an origami workshop on 7th November 09 at the Studio.
